A full report of Ms Lewis’ winning project will be included in next month’s Hospital
Pharmacist in the “Focus on
technicians” section

Pharmacy technicians can now enter a new award which has been added to the AAH pharmacy technician of the year award scheme. The award will specifically
recognise a project in clinical pharmacy, and will therefore cover work
in areas such as drug history taking, clinical trials co-ordination and
patient education.
The new award was announced by Jeremy Poole, hospital service director
for AAH, at the annual pharmacy technician of the year award
ceremony held in London on 17 October. At the ceremony, the winner of the
2003 award, Marie-Louise Lewis from Glan Clwyd Hospital in Wales,
collected her prize from the chief pharmaceutical adviser to the Welsh
Assembly, Carwen Wynne Howells. Ms Lewis introduced a technician-led medicines
management service.
Entries for both the
established supply chain award and the new clinical award are needed by
31 May 2004. They should comprise a 2,000 word report on a project in which
the entrant has been personally involved. The prize for both
categories includes an invitation to attend the 39th annual mid-year American
Society of Health-System Pharmacists
clinical meeting to be held in 2004 in Orlando, Florida.
