Welcome to the first issue of Medicines Management. It is designed as a bulletin for the exchange of ideas on developments in medicines management in all parts of the UK. As readers will note from the contents, different projects are at different stages of development, and Medicines Management would like to hear from other health care professionals about their own experiences — details of schemes that have not worked, as well as the successes, will be equally interesting.

The bulletin has been called Medicines Management (and not "Pharmaceutical Care", for example) because we decided that it was the easier term to explain to patients and other professionals working in the NHS. However, we recognise that some people prefer to use the term "pharmaceutical care" and we will not argue with contributors' wishes.

Medicines Management is sent free of charge to pharmacists and other health care professionals with an interest in effective prescribing. Please pass on this copy to colleagues who might be interested in joining the mailing list. Readers from the community, primary care and secondary care are all welcome.
