Official go ahead for pharmacist prescribingGuidance on supplementary prescribing will be published early next year, the Department of Health has confirmed. A statutory instrument is still needed to make supplementary prescribing by pharmacists and nurses legal, but the Department said it expected this to be laid before Parliament before the Christmas recess. In addition, it anticipates that training for pharmacists will begin in the spring. The outline curriculum for pharmacists wishing to become supplementary prescribers has been agreed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Council and can be found on the Society's website. It includes influences on prescribing, therapeutic aspects, monitoring, legal and ethical issues, and evidence-based practice. |
