Savings predicted by Coventry PCTCoventry PCT is predicting that it will find substantial savings once its prescription review and intervention scheme with education (PRISE) is rolled out to all 63 of its practices. The scheme was first reported in P&MM last year, and has already made £7,000 savings from 2,100 interventions recommended by pharmacists covering patients from 18 practices. However, Mark Galloway, medicines management facilitator at the PCT, says most of the recommendations came from just six practices. "There are significantly more savings to be made once the scheme is rolled out," he said. In fact, a single practice had £2,500 savings that were identified from the prescriptions of 43 patients. "It takes time to identify where savings could be made, but we expect significantly more savings to be made beyond those made already." |
