Mackay FR, Dunn NR, Martin RM, Pearce GL, Freemantle SN, Mann RD. Newer antidepressants: a comparison of tolerability in general practice. Br J Gen Prac 1999;49:892.

The authors compare tolerability and safety profile of fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, moclobemide, venlafaxine and nefazodone in over 60,000 patients (10,000 per group) treated in general practice. Frequently reported side effects were found to be similar but clinically and statistically significant differences for less frequent adverse effects were observed. The adjusted mortality rates were comparable.

What's in the medical press? - The rapidly changing situation in primary care means that it is often difficult to keep up to date with what is happening politically and clinically. This section of Primary Care Pharmacy will try to pick out a few articles that may be useful in day-to-day practice or have importance for the primary care role.
