David Shenton’s letter, “A declaration on non-practicising

National board elections

national pharmacy boards last week (p620), Lindsey Gilpin was wrongly

Lung cancer CPD
The left lung has two lobes and not three as stated in a recent Continuing
professional development article on lung
cancer (PJ, 28 October, p523).
The right lung has three lobes. This can be important when viewing chest
X-rays. |

Alan Nathan
The book
review “Non-prescription medicines” (PJ, 16 September,
p350) stated incorrectly that the author, Alan Nathan, is lecturer in
community pharmacy at King’s College London.
Mr Nathan retired from King’s two years ago and is now visiting
lecturer at the college, freelance pharmacy writer, consultant and preregistration
trainer. |

Letter response
Colin Deeney’s letter response about beta2-agonists in last week’s
Journal contained an error (p274). The third sentence of the fourth paragraph
should have read: “Rightly or wrongly they have accepted the possibility
that AHR increases with the S-enantiomer alone and are looking at using the
R-enantiomer alone clinically.” |

Unfortunately there were typographical errors in the letter from Bob
Michell published last week (p101). The third paragraph should have begun “It
may not have been comprehensive …” and the third line from the end
should have contained the word “analyses” not “analysis”. |

Brian Woosey of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Isle of Man branch
received his long service certificate from Brenda Charlton and not from

In the lists of appointments to committees of the Council of the Royal
Pharmaceutical Society for 2006–07 in last week’s Journal (p60),
the Education Committee list should have included, as ex officio members,
the Academic Pharmacy Group chairman, Chris Rostron (Liverpool John Moores
University), and vice-chairman, Jenny Scott (University of Bath). In the Science
Committee list, Ijeoma Uchegbu should have been described as chairman of the
Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. |

Ask About Medicines Award
Lindsay Holden and Lynn Bentley from Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care
Trust were pictured receiving an Ask About Medicines Award in the category
of “Excellence in the use of technology”; this was for a project
to help people who are deaf or hard of hearing to access medicines and services
through the use of text messaging, and not as stated (PJ, 10 June, p671).

Lisa Gilbert is not the contact person for the parallel workshops on
manufacturing science and practice for the pharmaceutical industry

Council report
One of our reports from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s April
Council meeting stated that the Council had accepted a suggestion that it should give
further consideration to the Society introducing an accreditation scheme for
continuing education providers (PJ, 15 April, p454). It did not. It rejected
the suggestion.
BPSA Conference
A news story on the BPSA annual conference (PJ, 22 April, p467) stated
that “the link between membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
may be broken according to students”. This was not the case since
the majority of the delegates abstained from the vote. Nicola Shaw spoke
for the abstentions and not as reported.
