CLARIFICATION: Hydrocortisone tablets
Only generic hydrocortisone tablets 10mg and 20mg are available from Auden Mckenzie, not Hydrocortone-branded hydrocortisone tablets as stated in last week’s Journal (p502).

CLARIFICATION: Headache paper
We have received an update on the affiliations of authors of the paper entitled “Guidelines for community pharmacists on the management of headache” (PJ, 15 March 2008, p311).

Sally Greensmith was working for Guildford and Waverley Primary Care Trust when that article was researched and written. She then moved to the National Prescribing Centre for two years until March 2007. The article did not form part of her role with the NPC. She is now community pharmacy development lead for South East Coast Strategic Health Authority.

Lisa Jamieson now works in the new Surrey PCT.

CORRECTION: Alison Moore
The letter by Alison Moore published last week (p471) was from Mrs A. M. Moore, of Dumfries, and not Dr A. Moore, of London, as stated.

April 5

Tribute to Arthur Pipe
A transcription error last week led to Arthur Pipe being described as a superintendent chemist in Cardiff at the end of the 1939–45 war (p381). In fact, he held this position at the start of the war.

AstraZeneca news
Symbicort is one of the four AstraZeneca products involved in the company’s “Making the most of your medicines” scheme and not Singulair as stated in a news item last week (p327). The training described is being provided by NPC Plus, not the National Prescribing Centre itself.

David Kent’s letter
In the letter from David Kent published last week (p334), the percentage mentioned in the fourth to last paragraph should have been 0.28 per cent and not 0.0028 per cent.

Grainger
The wife of the late Herbert Grainger died not long after their diamond wedding anniversary, and not their golden wedding anniversary as stated in last week’s issue (p348).

March 22

Seretide 500
The Scottish Medicines Consortium rejected salmeterol/fluticasone propionate 50/500µg (Seretide 500 Accuhaler) for the symptomatic treatment of patients with chronic obstructive airways disease (COPD) with a forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) 50 to 60 per cent of predicted normal (pre-bronchodilator) and a history of repeated exacerbations, who have significant symptoms despite regular bronchodilator therapy.

It has not been rejected for all COPD patients as suggested in last week’s News (PJ, 15 March 2008, p299).

March 8

Avatars
The front cover text and the headline of last week’s article on virtual patients (p249) should have read “Avatars” (not “Atavars”, as printed).

Clarification: Conal Farry’s letter
The letter from Conal Farry (PJ, 26 January 2008, p81) was headed “Statutory Committee”. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has asked us to point out that although the case referred to was a Statutory Committee inquiry, it was heard and the determination given by the Disciplinary Committee sitting under the Statutory Committee rules, as provided for in Schedule 2 (Part 1) to the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order 2007.

Clarification: Interim suspensions
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society wishes to clarify its position on interim suspensions of unincorporated sole practitioner pharmacists who become suspended under the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order 2007 (PJ, 5/12 January, p5). It wishes to be reassured that such pharmacists can put in place arrangements that both maintain protection of the public and allow pharmacy services to continue to be lawfully provided from the premises.

Correction: IPG newsletter
The article titled “MHRA launches a new strategy to curb trade in counterfeit medicines” in last month’s Industrial Pharmacists Group newsletter (PJ, 22/29 December 2007 PDF 250K) was written by John Kerridge, quality leader at Lilly UK, not Mike Murray as published.

Mr Murray wrote the text in the panel “2-D data matrix coding: a system to combat ounterfeiting”.

January 5/12

Jean Coote
Information about Jean Coote was incorrect in the 22/29 December 2007 issue of the Journal (p717).

She is currently responsible for the management of the pharmacy service at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, and for pharmaceutical care in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. She was previously a clinical pharmacy area specialist and teacher practitioner and honorary lecturer in association with the University of Strathclyde.

The Journal was given incorrect information.
