Stroke website (PJ 2004;274;609)
The Stroke Therapy Evaluation Programme has launched a website (www.effectivestrokecare.org) for health professionals. It contains a database of summaries of evidence for the effectiveness of interventions used in stroke care and has been developed to help health professionals keep up to date with current research in this area.

The Stroke Association website now contains a new section dedicated to health care professionals. Information on research projects can be accessed and research funding can also be accessed online (www.stroke.org.uk)


New primary care guidelines for treatment of stroke (PJ 2004;273;456)
The Action for Stroke Group, in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians, has developed Primary Care Concise Guidelines on the treatment of stroke, based on the updated National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke. Copies are available from the RCP website


New stroke leaflets

The Stroke Association has published a series of leaflets for health care professionals on stroke and follow-up care. The series includes:

  • Transient ischaemic attack
  • Carotid endarterectomy
  • Central post stroke pain
  • Swallowing problems after stroke
  • Subarachnoid haemorrhage
  • Driving after a stroke
