In September 2002, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society distributed census forms to all its members with the aim of updating and expanding its membership data (PJ, 31 August 2002, p302). The Society needs detailed, up-to-date information to inform its future work as a professional and regulatory body in the areas of workforce planning, education, research, developing the register and implementing race relations legislation. The census returns were analysed for the Society by researchers in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Manchester
