Amendment to the Byelaws: Registration of overseas pharmacistsNotice is hereby given in accordance with Section XXVIII of the Byelaws that the Council of the Society, under its powers in the Pharmacy Act 1954, has approved proposals to alter the Byelaws on registration of overseas pharmacists (Section XIX) as hereunder and that it intends to make such alterations after the expiry of 60 days from the date of this notice, subject to such amendments as the Lords of the Privy Council may require. Section XIX Paragraph 3 — Delete paragraph and replace with: 3. Any person wishing to apply for registration pursuant to an agreement
between the Society, in the exercise of powers conferred on the Council
of the Society under any previous byelaws, and the authorities responsible
for the registration of pharmacists — Paragraph 4 — Delete “A person making application for registration pursuant to an agreement entered into in accordance with the provisions of the preceding byelaw shall” and insert “A person making an application referred to in paragraph 3 shall”. Ann Lewis Note. The effect of the Byelaw amendment is to enable
the Society to end its reciprocal registration agreements with the
registration authorities
in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand but retain the reciprocal
registration agreement with Northern Ireland, the automatic registration
of European Economic Area nationals with appropriate European diplomas
as provided by the Pharmacy Act 1954 (as amended) and the Adjudicating
Committee route for all other applicants who “hold a pharmaceutical
qualification or qualifications comparable to an approved degree in pharmacy
awarded in the UK but granted by a university, or a body of comparable
academic status, outside the UK”. |
