Statutory Committee inquiries

The Statutory Committee will meet at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1, at 9.30am on Monday 23 April, Tuesday 24 April, Wednesday 25 April and Thursday 26 April 2007 to hear the following matters:

1. The committee will hear the new inquiry into the case of Rakesh Kumar Panesar (registration number 72139), who (1) on 8 June 2001 at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court was convicted of failing to comply with the requirements of an improvement notice under Section 21 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, requiring him to carry out remedial works to repair defects, contrary to Section 33(1)(g) of the Act, failing to comply with the requirements of an improvement notice under Section 21 of the Act, requiring him to carry out remedial works to repair defects to prevent rainwater penetration, contrary to Section 33(1)(g) of the Act, and failing to comply with the requirements of an improvement notice under Section 21 of the Act, requiring him to provide a hot water supply, contrary to Section 33(1)(g) of the Act, and who (2) on 23 May 2005 at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court was convicted of keeping or knowingly permitting the keeping of controlled waste without holding a waste management licence, contrary to Section 33(1)(B)(i)&(6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and failing to take all such measures available applicable to him in that capacity as were reasonable to prevent contravention by any other person, contrary to Section 4(1)(A) and (6) of the Act.

2. The committee will hear the new inquiry into a complaint by the Council of the Society against Gordon Trefor Cannell (registration number 62697), which alleges that: the supply of 28 amitriptyline 10mg tablets labelled as 28 atorvastatin 10mg tablets against a prescription calling for atorvastatin 10mg tablets; a failure to follow procedures put in place by employers to reduce risk by failing to make an entry in the error log in respect of a dispensing error; the supply of 84 propranolol tablets 10mg against a prescription calling for 168 propranolol tablets 10mg; the supply of 84 bendroflumethiazide tablets 2.5mg which were not prescribed; the supply of 3 boxes of Bendroflumethiazide tablets 2.5mg incorrectly labelled as Propranolol tablets 10mg, may amount to misconduct.

3. The committee will hear the new Inquiry into a complaint by the Council of the Society against Lindsay Wilson (registration number 83018), which alleges that a failure to comply with key responsibilities 1 to 3 of the Code of Ethics and Standards may amount to misconduct.

4. The committee will hear the new inquiry into the case of Kenneth Sanderson Brown (registration number 1058800), who on 22 July 2004 was convicted at Hamilton Sheriff Court of driving a motor vehicle while unfit to drive through alcohol, contrary to Section 5(1) (A) of the Road Traffic Act 1988. A complaint by the Society’s Council further alleges that the signing of a false declaration may amount to misconduct.
