Elections

Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences executive election

NOMINATIONS are invited from members of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences for candidates to stand for election to the academy executive committee There are nine elected members of the executive committee.

Three vacancies arise from the retirement of the following members who have served a period of office: Professor William Dawson (Bionet), Dr Colin Pouton (University of Bath) and Professor Howard Stevens (University of Strathclyde). Under the terms of the constitution, all these members are eligible for re-election.

The remaining members of the executive committee who will continue in office are as follows: retiring in 2002, Dr Christopher Doherty (AstraZeneca), Dr Rosemary Leak (GlaxoSmithKline), Professor David Thurston (University of London); retiring in 2003, Professor Graham Buckton (University of London), Professor Duncan Craig (Queen's University of Belfast), and Dr Carol Thomson (GSK).

A nominee is required to agree in writing to the nomination and it must be supported by two members of the academy. The nomination must be submitted on a nomination form (available on request to the Science Secretary) and must be accompanied by short biographical notes (maximum one A4 page).

The executive committee meets up to six times each year. Its purpose is to promote the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and to oversee the organisation of scientific symposia and conferences, including the scientific components of the British Pharmaceutical Conference. Members of the executive committee are also members of the academy board, which meets twice a year, and the programme committee, which meets twice a year. The period of office is three years and elected members are eligible to serve for a maximum of two terms.

Nominations for candidates must be received by the Science Secretary, Room 301, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1 7JN on or before August 1, 2001.

Wales annual general meeting: Executive election results

At the annual general meeting of the Welsh Executive of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, held on 17 July 2001, the result of the election of members of the Welsh Executive was given as follows:

Industrial Pharmacists Group election result

The election of seven members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Industrial Pharmacists Group to serve on the committee of the group has now been completed.

The result was as follows: Voting papers sent out, 2,318; voting papers returned 544; papers void due to improper completion, 3.

Votes were cast as follows:

Council election

I HAVE received the following report from Electoral Reform Ballot Services of votes cast in the recent election of Council members:

Scottish annual general meeting

THE annual general meeting of members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society resident in Scotland will be held at the Society's house, 36 York Place, Edinburgh, on Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at 2.30pm.

Representatives from each of the Scottish branches have been invited to take part in the proceedings but all members will be cordially welcomed.

The following business will be conducted:

1. Chairman's report.

2. Scrutineer's report

3. Election of six persons to the Executive

4. Any other business

5. A talk by Professor Phil Hanlon, director of the Public Health Institute of Scotland, on the newly created institute.

Academic Pharmacy Group Committee election 2001

Nominations are invited from members of the Academic Pharmacists Group for candidates to stand for election to the committee. There are six places on the committee to be filled. Nomination forms will be sent to all full members of the group via its liaison officers.
