Return of cancelled registration certificates
A certificate of registration as a pharmaceutical chemist is by law
the property of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and must be returned
to the Society when a member dies. If the pharmacist's next of kin or
other close family wish to preserve the certificate as recognition of
the deceased's achievement of registration, the Society's registration
section is able to cancel it discreetly and send it back. However, it
is only possible to do so if a request is received at the same time as
the return of the certificate, since a lack of storage space means that
certificates are normally destroyed as soon as they have been returned.
This procedure also applies in cases where a replacement certificate is
requested by a woman pharmacist who has changed her name on marriage.
