MEDICAL DEVICE ALERT: Durex condoms (19 December 2006)

Three different types of counterfeit Durex condoms — fetherlite (3 pack, LOT 21405074), performa (3 pack, LOT TGL4142) and gossamer (3 pack, LOT 21405074) — have been discovered in Essex, Birmingham and at Felixstowe docks.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has warned that the counterfeits may not have been manufactured to appropriate standards and may not provide adequate protection against sexually transmitted infections or pregnancy. Details are available from the MHRA.

SSL, the manufacturer of genuine Durex condoms, has confirmed that genuine 3-packs of Durex fetherlite LOT 21405074 were distributed in the UK between July 2005 and September 2005 and in April 2006. Genuine 3-packs of Durex performa LOT TGL4142 were distributed in the UK between January 2005 and April 2005 and in March 2006. No genuine 3-packs of Durex gossamer LOT 21405074 have ever been distributed.
