RECALL: Zyprexa (24 May)

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is recalling three lots of parallel distributed Zyprexa 10mg tablets (olanzapine, Eli Lilly) because of the discovery of counterfeit product in the market. Two of the batches are believed to have reached patients and pharmacists are asked to try to recover product from anyone who has received it.

Lot number

A200127

A216454

A229505

The three lot numbers concerned are genuine lots originally supplied in France in French livery. The stock being recalled in the UK has been overlabelled or repackaged by 40 different parallel distributors who may have added prefixes or suffixes to the Eli Lilly lot numbers.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency says that affected product should be quarantined and sent to Eli Lilly for examination and records kept so that reimbursement can be discussed with the original supplier. Pharmacists should contact parallel distributors from whom they have obtained product if batch numbers are not in the format AXXXXXX or AXXXXXX/X.

Returns should be arranged with Eli Lilly's cutomer services team on 0800 032 0741.
