RECALL: Plavix (4 June)

Further to the recall of clopidogrel tablets (PJ, 2 June, p641) the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the European Medicines Agency, together with Waymade Plc, are recalling 20 batches of parallel distributed Plavix 75mg film-coated tablets (clopidogrel) because of the discovery of counterfeit product in the legitimate supply chain.

Cartons being recalled have the above batch numbers on one end-flap and the text “Parallel distributed and repackaged by Waymade plc Miles Gray Road Basildon Essex SS14 3FR” adjacent to the carton bar code. Waymade Plc has added a suffix to the batch number to differentiate different packing runs.

Batch 3103 is a genuine Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb batch number for which the original unchanged cartons were supplied to France in French livery. Plavix is routinely supplied to the UK market in UK-branded livery, which is not parallel distributed. None of this stock has the above lot numbers or variants.

Recipients are requested to quarantine product with the above batch numbers and contact Waymade customer services on 01268 535200 to make arrangements for returns and discuss the issue of reimbursement.
