MEDICAL DEVICE ALERT: Smiths Medical medication cassette reservoir (6 June)

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has issued an alert regarding the following batches of medication cassette reservoir for CADD legacy infusion pumps, manufactured by Smiths Medical.

There have been reports of shifts in pH of medicines, discoloration and occlusions, which may or may not be related to a change of material formulation to include calcium carbonate, in certain batches.

Recipients are asked to quarantine the affected devices until further evidence is obtained regarding their safety. Smiths Medical should be contacted on 01923 246434 to obtain unaffected medication cassette reservoirs.
