MEDICAL DEVICE ALERT: Blood glucose meters and test strips (16 February 2008)

OneTouch Ultra test strips, manufactured by LifeScan, may generate incorrect blood glucose results when used in conjunction with MediSense Optium, Optium Xceed or Boots brand meters. MediSense Optium and Optium Xceed meters from Abbot Diabetes Care, and Boots brand meters, should be used with Optium Plus test strips (foil wrapped). LifeScan’s OneTouch Ultra, OneTouch Ultra2, OneTouch UltraEasy and OneTouch UltraSmart meters should be used with OneTouch Ultra test strips.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency advises pharmacists to inform patients about which strips are compatible with the meter being supplied, and vice versa, and to use compatible strips when using blood glucose testing devices.
