RECALL: Neupro (10 April 2008)

UCB Pharma is recalling Neupro (rotigotine) transdermal patches with batch numbers starting 47806, 47807 and 47808.

A manufacturing fault has meant that some patches have not met approved specifications and some may have reduced efficacy. The manufacturer says this is not an issue of product contamination or safety.

Wholesalers should contact customer services on 01773 510123 to arrange return of stock. Pharmacists should contact their wholesaler to arrange return of stock and credit. UCB Pharma says that stock in the UK is sufficient and all recalled products will be replaced.

Since symptoms suggestive of neuroleptic malignant syndrome have been reported with abrupt withdrawal of dopaminergic therapy, patients should be advised that sudden discontinuation of treatment should be avoided.
