Contrasts between the widespread use of traditional Chinese
medicines and the comparative lack of scientific knowledge about them were a
major feature of a recent meeting held at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Peter
Houghton (professor of pharmacognosy, King's College London) reports
The meeting, held on 12 June, was a joint meeting of the Royal Pharmaceutical
Society, the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Great Britain, the Society for Medicinal Plant Research and the International Society for Ethnopharmacology.
