“Resistance is futile”, a conference organised by the Specialist Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and National Prescribing Centre to promote the rational use of antimicrobials in acute hospitals, took place at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society on 12 July.

Increasing antibiotic resistance is a major threat to public health. What can professionals and the public do about antimicrobial resistance and prescribing? That was the question posed at this meeting. Eleanor M. Woodford, a PhD student at the School of Pharmacy, London, reports

The meeting was jointly organised by the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, the Specialist Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and the Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics. It took place in London on 30 November
