Still smoking

Over 60,000 health care professionals still smoke, according to recent research carried out by Lloydspharmacy.

Andy Murdock, pharmacy director for the chain, said: “There are about 3,800 pharmacists who have yet to quit.” The research shows that 2,100 GPs and 54,600 nurses also still smoke.

Health care professionals who used to smoke reported feeling more able to advise patients on how to quit. Mr Murdock added: “People need to understand that we are here to help them and that the experts are only human. Many have battled with nicotine addiction themselves and know how they feel.”
