Working tax creditThe threshold for paying working tax credit is to rise, Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling announced during his budget speech earlier this month. To qualify for the credit, the person must be over 25 years of age, work at least 30 hours a week and be on an income below £12,700 per year (if they are single). This is an increase of around £1,000 per year (£20 per week) on the previous threshold. The rise is expected to affect many shopworkers. Details about eligibility for tax credit or how to apply are available by telephoning HM Revenue and Customs on a confidential helpline (0845 300 3900). |
