Tomorrow is another day - A new beginning, a new dawn
By Pamela Mason - editor
Welcome to Tomorrow's Pharmacist. Whether you have just started at pharmacy school, you are in your last year or are starting your preregistration training, we hope you find this new publication useful and interesting. Training to be a pharmacist is a challenge, and as students who have been there before you will tell you, the exams are difficult and the pressures on your bank balance can be enormous. In short, it can be stressful, especially if you have just left home for the first time.
But remember that your four years at pharmacy school should be fun. Your pharmacy degree is only one part of your life. So, get the balance as right as you can between social life and your studying - it's a useful lesson to learn for the rest of your life and pharmacy career.
We have tried to tailor this publication's contents to your needs and are grateful to members of the British Pharmaceutical Students' Association (BPSA) for their help, not to mention the 20 or so authors who have written the articles. They offer help and advice on choosing your career and how to land your first post, including how to handle that crucial interview. Other articles explain what it means to be a professional and how to communicate effectively with patients. For reference, we have also included information on the organisation of the British Pharmaceuetical Students' Association, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the National Health Service and UK pharmacy services.
Studying is - and will remain - a vital part of your career, both as a student and a pharmacist. Our authors therefore offer some pearls of wisdom on reading and study skills, how to participate in continuing education, including the value of postgraduate programmes; the importance of continuing professional development is also covered. Several articles are written by pharmacy students, providing first hand experience of what it was like to complete their preregistration year in a variety of settings as well as holiday work in Tanzania.
Whether you read this publication cover to cover or dip into it for reference, we hope it will contribute to your future. And, whatever you think about it we would like to hear from you. This should be your publication. Good luck completing your training, and with the rest of your career. You are Tomorrow's Pharmacists.
