Malaria prophylaxis
New guidelines for malaria prophylaxis New guidelines for malaria prophylaxis were published mid July. The main change to the guidelines, produced by the Advisory Committee on Malaria Prevention for UK travellers, is the inclusion of doxycycline and atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone) for use as alternative preferred regimens to mefloquine in many countries.

Recent press coverage has suggested that pharmacists are not giving up-to-date information on malaria prophylaxis.

The Journal published extracts from the guidelines in 14 and 21 July 2001 issues.
